Laiye Pandemic Investigation Robot to Be Patented

News

Global intelligent automation provider Laiye announced today that it had submitted several new patent applications for COVID-19 detection to the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The applications pertain to the company’s intelligent robot and how it can automatically understand what users say, give appropriate answers, and execute tasks accordingly.

Meeting the pandemic challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic posed new challenges, including detecting the disease in communities en masse and reducing the risk of cross-infection during in-person interactions. In response, Laiye has jointly cooperated with Thingo Group to provide a robotic process automation (RPA) Intelligent Visiting Robot to the Longteng Community of Longquan Street in Wuhan, China. This has greatly reduced community staff workload and enabled more efficient screening.

One stumbling block in investigating COVID-19 in a community is the diverse range of Chinese dialects, which poses a challenge to automatic speech recognition. The robot needs to comprehend different dialects to provide quality services for people in COVID-19 outbreak areas around China.

To address this, Laiye conducted roughly 200 outbound calls using formal language. Then, Laiye collected visitor replies for manual analysis to detect translation errors in the answers. The common translation errors were then compiled into a dialect-specific dictionary for keyword replacement. With this unique keyword-based dialect optimization combined with intelligent speech recognition and natural language processing, the AI-powered RPA robots could get to work.

Deploying the robots

After the investigation robot listened to visitor responses, the assistance robot would then automatically perform tasks such as obtaining an outbound resident list and sending a daily email to community personnel. What used to take three staff members eight hours to complete could now be finished in just 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, the information collection robot was responsible for collecting outgoing call lists from management information systems (MIS), processing and screening questions and answers, and writing back to the MIS system. The message notification robot would query the personnel list database, interpret data, and export outbound results.

As the processes were fully automated, 1,000 calls could be conducted simultaneously, allowing the completion of 30,000 outgoing calls in just two hours. Work that usually took ten staff members eight hours could now be completed in just one hour.

Providing intelligent solutions

Laiye's patented technology uses intelligent speech recognition, enabling the investigation robot to “listen clearly.” It also uses natural language processing to achieve semantic understanding, enabling the robot to "thoroughly understand."

Through optical character recognition and speech synthesis, the robot automates processes such as information collection, extraction, input, and feedback. The robots assist in all manual work during the pandemic investigation, dramatically improving the accuracy and efficiency of the investigation and reducing the risk of infection.

During the 2020 Spring Festival, when China was in the early stages of pandemic prevention, Laiye independently developed and designed an integrated Intelligent Automation solution for pandemic prevention. The robots would call to inquire about the residents' health, collect information, and report the entire process.

With end-to-end automation, investigations could be done with greater accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Laiye’s Intelligent Automation solutions have received positive responses from many communities in Beijing, Hubei, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Ningxia, and other provinces and cities.

“Laiye promises to continue to provide communities with free robot products and services for pandemic prevention and control,” said Chairman and CEO of Laiye, Guanchun Wang.
